Hard Work Pays Off at Calisthenics Nationals

Keera Beasley is a Junior National Calisthenics Champion after helping the 2018 Victorian Junior Calisthenics team win the national title in Canberra during the July school holidays.

Keera (Year 7) was selected to represent her state in November 2017. Since then she has travelled to Melbourne every Sunday to learn routines, train with her team and perfect the performances. There have also been many hours of strength and technique training throughout the week. All of this hard work paid off with a win at the nationals.

Calisthenics is a multi-disciplinary team sport that includes marching, club swinging, free exercises, rod twisting, aesthetic and dance. The sport combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and dance.

Teams compete against each other in six different items, with aggregate points awarded for places in each item. Victoria received four first places and two second places, based on the technical skill of the team members, choreography, creativity and uniformity.

Congratulations, Keera!
