NONE

Two College brothers have had a successful Easter weekend competing in the famous Stawell Gift foot race.

Patrick (Year 7) and Hamish (Year 9) Poulter were both among 80 boys running in the Telstra Store Craigieburn Little Athletics Boys' Handicap 100m event, which began with 10 heats races on Sunday, with Hamish winning Heat 5 and Patrick coming second in Heat 10.

The next morning, the boys competed in separate semi-finals. Patrick came sixth in a tight semi-final, where there were only 0.479 seconds between all runners' times. In the second semi-final, Hamish managed a second place to book his spot in the final.

The final a few hours later was another very close event, with Hamish sprinting into third place in 11.752 seconds, less than 0.1 seconds behind the winner! The video below from Little Athletics Victoria shows the final being run - look for Hamish in the white top (skip to the 5:30 mark for the race).

The Stawell Gift has been held in all but four years since 1878, and is one of the world’s most famous and prestigious foot races. Run on grass, athletes start off varying marks according to their form and ability.

Congratulations Patrick and Hamish!
