Discovering the Power of Engineering

Our Centre for Learning, Research and Innovation hosted Power of Engineering and Machinam Founder Felicity Furey for a day of workshops and presentations on Wednesday 22 February.

Felicity Furey is a young female engineer and entrepreneur who has worked on multi-million-dollar infrastructure projects, founded two companies and is passionate about inspiring young women into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) careers. She has worked with Boeing, Telstra and Qantas, and was named the Financial Review BOSS magazine’s Young Executive of 2016 and one of Australia’s "100 Women of Influence" in 2012.

Felicity worked with our Year 6 students in the morning, facilitating a workshop on digital communication and the creation of bionic hands. She then spoke with our Years 9, 10 and 11 students about changing their perceptions of what an engineer looks like and the types of work they engage in, and to finish the day, Felicity led a workshop for 60 students, teachers and parents that looked at strategies for encouraging girls to pursue careers in STEM fields.

Felicity has collated many of her resources that were shared throughout the day on the Power of Engineering website -
