Co-Curriculum
Community Service
Citizenship is highly prized at The Geelong College and the students’ service to others is a source of pride to the school community. Our citizenship policy determines that the attitudes, behaviour and actions of students should contribute positively to the wellbeing of the school and its community, and we do our best to fulfil this aim.
Students across the school are thus encouraged to participate in social service and community service activities to assist local and overseas agencies. Activities initiated by the students themselves (such as the Simply Sharing Dinner and environmental projects) are perhaps the most rewarding.
A number of productive relationships have been developed under the direction of the Spiritual and Community Outreach Coordinator. These include partnerships with Narara Aboriginal Cultural Centre near Torquay and Shalom Christian College, an Aboriginal school in Townsville, helping students build bridges towards reconciliation and cultural understanding.
An inter-generational project has been established with Kalkee, a Uniting Church aged care facility in Geelong, where students visit regularly and assist the elderly citizens who live there.
