Co-Curriculum
Drama
The Geelong College has offered Drama within the curriculum for over 30 years and as an extra curricular activity for many more. From our traditional Glee Club Gilbert and Sullivan productions of the 40s and 50s, to our successful musicals of more recent years, breaking into song has warmed our hearts.
When rehearsing classics, pantomime and fairytales, self-devised pieces or commissioned works, comedies or tragedies, dramas or farces, we explore human experiences. Shakespeare, Brecht, Fo, Wilde, Friel, Orwell, Chekov and Stoppard are a few who have had their time on the boards with The Geelong College Drama students. Classes of eight or casts of more than 108 have all experienced what it means to learn Drama or be involved in a Geelong College Production.
The drama program focuses on the art of communication and students are encouraged to develop an understanding of their body and voice as they participate in traditional and contemporary performances. Students from Prep grade to Year 12 have the opportunity to express themselves creatively by participating in a wide range of school plays and musicals, in venues both in and out of the school.
The Geelong College has a cohesive and dynamic Arts faculty. Our productions are created and developed, supported and enhanced by all the people sharing the new and professional surrounds of the Keith Humble Centre for Music and the Performing Arts.
