Co-Curriculum
Sport
The College has a very strong sporting tradition. As part of the College’s commitment to educating the whole child, participation in our extensive sporting program is required. The Geelong College is a member of the Associated Public Schools (aps) competition.
From Year 7, training is held before or after school, and matches are played on Saturday mornings against affiliated schools, mostly located in Melbourne. Competition sports include cricket, rowing, tennis, swimming, diving, football, soccer, hockey, badminton, basketball, water polo and athletics for boys; and rowing, tennis, swimming, diving, netball, badminton, soccer, softball, basketball, hockey, athletics and water polo for girls. There is also an active House sporting competition.
Several additional sports are offered, enabling students to be part of representative school teams in equestrian events, fencing, golf, snow skiing, cross-country, lifesaving and surfing.
While two seasons of sport—summer and winter—are compulsory for all students, participation in a third season of athletics or water polo is voluntary in the Senior School.
Extensive first-class sporting facilities, including a fully equipped boat shed on the banks of the Barwon River, a weights room in the Senior School, pools, ovals and gymnasiums, support the program.
